Service Based
My experience with service industry
I wore various hats as a UX consultant and consulted with both huge corporations and start-ups. I was not only responsible for conceptualising, but also for overseeing and coordinating the proposed solution. As a consultant, my responsibilities included

1. Hands on work with the designs
2. Project management, stakeholder management, and team management
3. From time to time, I also had to wear the evangelist hat to ensure that value was highlighted in the services being offered
4. Collaboration with different teams from different domains also helped me understand subject matters more clearly
Being a consultant had its benefits and drawbacks, and although I'm talking about the potential for growth, I'd like to point out a few of the issues that cropped up from time to time: (as an example)
- work scope changes - business deals fall through - clients don't finish invoicing, resulting in a lot of good work never seeing the light of day - ideas/ suggestions are held back due to practical constraints - you don't get to – witness your work from inception to delivery
Overall, I'm inspired when I can see the end outcomes, which is why I'm drawn to a product-focused ecosystem.
Product Based
My experience with product companies
Working as a lead product designer or UX head in many product firms has given me more confidence in owning the entire process, understanding that particular domain, experiencing the outcome, and utilising data/analytics to improve further. User validation was achievable thanks to access to the product's end users, which is a barrier for many firms.
From the beginning, my process is to understand every stakeholder's vision and purpose, as well as what they hoped to achieve, and of course, every stakeholder's point of view assisted me in painting a picture from a holistic perspective. As product lead, my attention isn't just on the product, but on the complete customer journey that the product is a part of, which has always assisted organisations in achieving their goals.
Some of the responsibilities of the UX head include:
1. Being a member of the advisory table when the product roadmap is being mapped out by the stakeholders
2. Assembling a design team and overseeing their development and management
3. Converting problems from the business and user perspectives into features and solutions
4. Developing proof of concepts as part of the innovation process
5. Creating a design methodology that allows business, design, and development to work together seamlessly.
6. Be in charge of the delivery of digital experiences
Overall, I believe that a product company may help a product/UX designer significantly if there is complete transparency in terms of what the end aim is and how they approach their end user.
